Here we see the frankenfish in its natural habitat - floating among the rock of underground caverns, waiting - appearing dead, until its prey comes. When its prey appears, it will suddenly wag with great vigor to frighten - or possibly disgust - it into submission.

it's FRANKENFISH!
of last night's Mythbusters episode fame!
yes, I am wierd. no, I don't care.
My brain started chugging on this guy last night, despite my best efforts.. and decided that this fish has GOT to be an example of one of the species in gearworld. now, since I'm not going to start infringing on Ursula's mental space, I'm not particularly inclined to actually PUT him there.. so it's gearworldesque for now . stubborn little fish isn't he?
I REALLY would love any tips on the rock wall and water.. I have NO idea what I'm doing there. the fish I pretty much am happy with, aside from the tail, so he probably won't change - but if you have any suggestions, PLEASE don't hesitate to voice them!
note: NOT my creature. this one belongs to Jamie Hyneman - I just painted it.
Art Rage 2 (w/ photoshop for the reflection effect) - probably 3 or 4 hours so far.
LONG LIVE FRANKENFISH SINISTER SUBTERRAENEAN SLEUTH
the water is awesome all black
for the wall i would darken it a little more and just think of it as a series of three dimensional objects, like big slabs jutting out and receding inwards, so its not so flat looking.
wow, that was fast! lol
thank you so much for the advice! I will *definately* try out the thing with the wall. once I'm not dead. I should have been in bed about 8 hours ago. hehe. out of curiosity, how'd you find my little piece?
Not bad for a wip. I'm not a painter so I can't give technique advice, but as an avid fisherman I'd like to point out that most fish scales are rounded in shape. :3
Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 10 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.

I'm mad. You're mad. We're all mad here...
about the scales - it's really not going for super realism.. I just crosshatched it sloppily to save my sanity.
